Client Info

Packback exists to awaken the fearless, relentless curiosity in every student. Packback creates Artificial Intelligence-powered learning communities that improve critical thinking and support curiosity in college students.

The Packback AI platform coaches students on how to ask better questions while they type, identifies the best content within each community, grades the posts based on the soft skills displayed within the post, and moderates the community to maintain a focus on open-ended, high-level discussion. Their AI was informed by research on student engagement and post quality, and guided by Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognition.

After launching in April of 2014 upon airing on ABC’s “Shark Tank” to a record 8.1M viewers nationwide, Packback has grown to serve over 130K students nationwide and is backed by $3M+ in venture funding from notable investors including Mark Cuban (Owner Dallas Mavs), Howard Tullman (CEO 1871), and Mark Tebbe (Founder Answers.com).

Packback has been featured on numerous occasions in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, while its founders have been named as Crain’s Chicago 20 in their 20’s and ChicagoInno's 50 on Fire.

Promet's team does a great job creating a very organized report that goes page by page of your app, describing the issue, corresponding issue code in the WCAG standards, priority level, and remediation tips if it is unclear from the standards.

What We Did

We partnered with Packback to make their entire platform WCAG 2.0 Level AA-compliant. This meant carefully reviewing and updating three web applications while creating guidelines to ensure all user-generated content would be accessible to students using screen readers and other assistive tools.

Thoughtful Integration with Development Team

Instead of working separately, our accessibility team joined forces with Packback's developers. This close collaboration helped us quickly understand their AI platform's technical complexities and create solutions that worked within their existing systems.

Clear Roadmap for Accessibility

We provided a detailed audit report that mapped out every accessibility issue, its WCAG code reference, and specific steps for fixing it. This gave Packback's team a clear path forward for making their platform fully accessible while maintaining its innovative features.

Long-term Accessibility Success

Beyond just fixing current issues, we built a framework for ongoing accessibility compliance. This ensures that as Packback continues to grow and release new features, accessibility remains built into their development process rather than being added later.

The Result

The project successfully brought all three of Packback's web applications into WCAG 2.0 Level AA compliance. More importantly, we established processes to keep their platform accessible as they add new features and content, ensuring all students can participate fully in their learning communities.
